About Us
Aims and Scope
The Philippine Journal of Development (PJD) is a multidisciplinary, peer-reviewed journal published twice a year by the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS). It focuses on various aspects of development, including the economy, business, governance, political dynamics, international relations, and other related fields. It accepts original, unpublished papers with strong policy implications on national and international concerns, particularly development issues in the Asia-Pacific region.
The PJD serves as a platform for research that contributes to evidence‑based policymaking and informed public discourse. It encourages interdisciplinary approaches and diverse methodological perspectives.
The Journal’s primary readership includes policymakers, planners, senior government officials, development practitioners, and academics, as well as local- and foreign-based researchers, research institutions, and members of the academe with an interest in development policy and practice.
The PJD follows a double-blind peer-review process to ensure that submitted manuscripts are evaluated on the basis of quality, originality, and policy relevance. This process upholds the integrity of published articles by subjecting submissions to evaluation by independent experts in the field. The journal adheres to international publishing standards—emphasizing transparency, methodological soundness, and substantive contributions to the field.
The PJD is published twice a year, with issues released in June and December. It is indexed in IDEAS RePEc, Socioeconomic Research Portal for the Philippines (SERP-P), Google Scholar, and Crossref to ensure that research contributions reach a broad audience. The PJD is registered in the DOI system: https://doi.org/10.62986/pjd.
History
The PJD was first published in 1974 as the NEDA Journal of Development, a semiannual publication of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA). In 1981, the journal transitioned to PIDS and was renamed the Journal of Philippine Development (JPD). In 2001, the journal adopted its current name, the Philippine Journal of Development (PJD). This change has reflected the journal’s broader scope, encompassing research not only on domestic development concerns but also on global and regional economic trends affecting the Philippines.
For more than 50 years, the Philippine Journal of Development (PJD) has remained committed to publishing policy-relevant research on contemporary social and economic issues. It has continuously adapted to advancements in research methodologies, shifts in global economic conditions, and emerging development challenges. Over the years, the PJD has incorporated diverse research approaches, including quantitative modeling, qualitative analysis, comparative studies, and interdisciplinary research. As a key platform for knowledge dissemination, it serves as a valuable resource for government agencies, academic institutions, and development organizations.
