Abstract
This issue explores critical economic and industrial challenges facing the Philippines, from the competitiveness of the information technology (IT) sector to trade policies, energy access, and port utilization. One paper examines the Philippine IT industry’s position in the global market, highlighting its role as a major foreign exchange earner. Another paper investigates the underutilization of regional fishing ports, revealing that low commercial and aquaculture fish production has led to inefficiencies in port operations. Addressing energy access, another study explores the Financing Energy Services for Small-scale End-users program, which supports rural electrification through renewable energy. The paper evaluates its effectiveness in bridging the energy gap in underserved areas. Additional studies analyze trade policies, including the effects of currency movements on trade volumes and the transition to the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade Valuation Code (GVC).
